Veteran highlife musician Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy will be given an honourary award at the maiden edition of the Eastern Music Awards.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is to appreciate the highlife legend for his immense contribution to music in the Eastern Region and Ghana at large.
In an interview with the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Music Awards, Ernest Offei aka Mr. King, he said the decision to honour Kofi Sammy in the maiden of the awards stems from his exceptional feats in the music industry and the glory he has brought the Eastern Region.
“Abirekyieba has done a lot for himself in the music circles but he has not really been appreciated by Ghanaians. We chose him because he comes from this region, he has lived here for a long time and so whatever glory he has achieved in the industry extends to the region too. He’s paid his dues and needs to be celebrated,” he told Citi Showbiz.
Apart from Kofi Sammy, some artistes will also walk home with awards from various categories.
Performing on the night are Abirekyeiba Kofi Sammy, T Rhymes, Rakinova, Afariwa, Pope Skinny, Medikal, Koo Ntakra, Kwame Eugene, among others.
The award ceremony takes place on 7th October, 2017 at the Eastern Premier Hotel in Koforidua.
